Da Bess Saimin is at Da Palace!

Saimin - just the sound of it brings back childhood memories of Dad waking us kids up for late night bowls of noodle soup and tasty barbecue sticks!

Saimin is comfort food...food for the soul...The saimin stand is where we all go after the party, after the movies, after bowling, and where we end up when everything else shuts down.

I've been foraging for ono saimin for as long as I can remember. I've made it a hobby to check out all the saimin joints. But I always come back to my childhood favorite. And everything about it is just as I remember. The old Japanese waitresses and cooks are still there! Everytime I go in, it's like coming home!

Palace Saimin is still no ka oi! Located on the bottom floor of an unobtrusive residential apartment building on King Street in Kalihi (across the Kapalama Post Office), it still manages to get a line out the door!

I'm still trying to figure out why it's soooooo ono, and I think it's the broth and of course years of aloha that's gone into preparing the noodles and making the concoctions just right! The barbecue sticks will also leave you craving for more! They are slightly chared, just the way I like them and the teri-sauce is light - not too sweet!

Even though this saimin stand has been around since I was a kid, it seems like they've never changed the prices. I can still get a bowl of saimin for under $3.
